Define how the area will be used
An entertaining area for a dining table needs more space than you might think. Mark out furniture and walkways before settling on a size.
Choose materials
Consider heat underfoot, slip resistance, colour, maintenance and how the paving will work with your home. Request samples and view them in your own light.
Levels and drainage
Paving must fall away from the house and should not bridge termite barriers or sit too high against walls. Plan where water will go.

A properly excavated and compacted base is what keeps paving flat. Ask what base depth and materials are included in each quote.
